Processing of Food


What is Food Processing?

Food processing is the activity of processing raw foods into refined foods as well as into products suitable for human consumption. Where possible, waste should be re-manufactured into a by-product. Food Processing also includes the application of biological, physical and chemical sciences in order to develop new and improved food products.

Raw foods are designed into a variety of different food types, using processes such as preservation, processing commodities, freezing, drying, extracting, converting, reducing and combining foods.
