Hydraulic and Pneumatic System

Pneumatic systems and hydraulic systems are yet another way that we are able to control certain mechanical systems. Pneumatic systems and hydraulic systems have made the work that we need to do a lot easier. These systems allow us to do more work with less effort.

What is a pneumatic system?

A pneumatic system is a way of controlling various instruments and tools by using air pressure. Pneumatic machines have parts that are moved by a gas. Pneumatic machines can be very powerful. They are also quite simple and very strong.

What is a hydraulic system?

We have just learnt how easy it is to compress air. Air is so easy to compress that it is unsuitable for many situations where control is required.However, liquids which include oil and water, are almost incompressible and these liquids are used in hydraulic control systems. A simple hydraulic system has a pipe filled with oil and a piston fitted at each end. When you push one piston into the pipe it forces the piston at the other end outwards. This transmits power from one end of the pipe to the other end. Hydraulic machines can be very powerful.
