What is design?

When we talk about designing, we refer to coming up with new ideas and being
creative.  In designing, we make use of sequence drawings, exploded views, flow charts, artistic drawings, basic drawings, annotated sketches, circuit diagrams, line and sequence drawings.   

A design is the expression given through the use of design elements and design
principles.

The  design elements and design principles are carefully combined to give a desired effect.  If used correctly, it will result in a good design.The design elements are the basic ingredients of any design.  When the design elements are combined successfully in a design, it will give a certain mood or idea.  The term ‘design’ refers to the orderly arrangement of the design elements. 

A characteristic of good design is that it is attractive, functional and practical.
